Sam Torrance has insisted that he has no intention of captaining Europe at the Ryder Cup again.
The 61-year-old assisted Paul McGinley at Gleneagles last month as Europe retained the trophy with an emphatic win over the USA, but he claims that the experience has not persuaded him to throw his hat in the running for the job in 2016.
"It has not reignited my urge to captain Europe again," Torrance told Sky Sports news. "The most important criteria for Ryder Cup captain is to be the best man for the job and I am 100 per cent not the right man for the job.
"I think – and have always thought – that you still have to be playing on tour and creating a bond with the players throughout the two years of your captaincy.
"I would love to captain again but I wouldn't accept it for those reasons."
Torrance captained Europe to victory at The Belfry in 2002.
