Great Britain & Ireland captain Paul McGinley is disappointed with the big names that have pulled out of this week's Seve Trophy.
World number one Luke Donald and number three Rory McIlroy have both withdrawn from the event held against Continental Europe at Golf de Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, Paris.
"I'm disappointed not to have Luke and Rory because I'm competitive - I want to win. I wanted my best team available," said McGinley.
"But I understand the top players in the world are playing a different schedule in which ranking points are very important to them. Everyone makes decisions on what is best for their career."
The four day competition begins on Thursday, with Miguel Angel Jimenez hitting the first shot in honour of the trophy's founder, the late Seve Ballasteros.
