Morgan Hoffman takes lead at Arnold Palmer Invitational

Morgan Hoffman cards a 66 to take a one-shot lead on the first day of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Morgan Hoffman has claimed a one-shot lead at the end of day one of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.

Hoffman, who started the week as world number 137, opened his round with a 30-foot putt for birdie before finding the hole from 45 feet later in the round for eagle.

He finished with a round of 66 to hit the top of the leaderboard on six-under-par, one stroke ahead of a group of five players which includes Ian Poulter.

The Englishman carded a bogey-free 67, while Adam Scott, Henrik Stenson, Padraig Harrington and Brandt Snedeker were all a shot further back.

World number one Rory McIlroy impressed with the irons to hit all but one of the greens, but the putter let the Northern Irishman down as he finished on two-under in Florida.
