A British man has reportedly been charged with suspected illegal betting at the Australian Open.
The 22-year-old is said to have been arrested by police at Melbourne Park on Tuesday and charged with one count of engaging in conduct that would corrupt a betting outcome.
It is said that the man was caught for alleged courtsiding, which involves placing bets on the outcome of points during a match.
According to the Daily Mail, Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Graham Ashton said: "Victoria now has specific legislation that covers offences related to cheating at gambling.
"These offences carry hefty penalties of up to 10 years in prison. We will be monitoring matches for the remainder of the tournament, so if you're thinking of engaging in this kind of behaviour, think again."
The man was released on bail and ordered to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
