UEFA has denied speculation that the final of the 2019-20 Champions League could be staged in New York.
According to the reports, UEFA was mooting a proposal to capitalise on the growing popularity of European football in the States by holding the final of its showpiece tournament in New York in three years' time.
Many of the top clubs around Europe already play lucrative friendly games around the US every summer, and moving the Champions League there is allegedly seen as the next logical step by some in the UEFA hierarchy.
According to The Sun, however, the organisation has quickly moved to dampen the speculation by insisting that the final will remain in Europe for the foreseeable future.
The final of this season's competition will be held in Kiev, while Madrid and Azerbaijan's Baku are in the running to host the finale of the 2018-19 edition.
