Journalist Martin Roschitz has given some insight into the atmosphere among the France and Germany footballers in the immediate aftermath of the Paris terrorist attacks on Friday night.
Three suicide bombers killed themselves outside of the Stade de France, where France sealed a 2-0 victory over Germany in an international friendly.
The players spent the night in the stadium as police tried to tackle the terrorist threat, which included attacks on five other locations in the French capital.
Roschitz, who works for German broadcaster NDR, has told BBC Radio Five Live that he and other reporters informed the players what had happened.
"It was quite a strange situation because the players came inside the tunnel to do the normal interviews and we had no questions for them," said Roschitz. "They felt there was something wrong but they didn't know anything.
"The only guy who knew something was Jerome Boateng, the German defender, he was substituted in the second half and so he was in the cabin and had a smartphone so he knew exactly what had happened.
"We told them obviously what happened and team manager Oliver Bierhoff spoke to the players and after that they tried to get in touch with their families, relatives, just to get in touch with them and say everything's alright."
The attacks caused the deaths of 129 people.
