German firm 'went ahead with magazine ad of Michael Schumacher'

A German firm defends the emergence of a print ad featuring Michael Schumacher, who remains in hospital in a coma following a skiing accident in December.

A print advert featuring Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher has appeared in a magazine, despite the German firm's attempts to pull all adverts since the sportsman's skiing accident.

The 45-year-old has been in an induced coma since he hit his head on a rock while skiing off-piste in the French Alps on December 29.

German firm Hassia is said to have agreed a promotional deal with Schumacher prior to his accident to endorse Rosbacher mineral water.

"We reacted immediately after the accident, cancelling radio and TV commercials as well as all print and outdoor ads," the Daily Star quotes the firm as saying. "We could not, however, replace at short notice some advertisements."

Meanwhile, the first corner of the Bahrain International Circuit will be named after Schumacher.
