Sky Sports is reportedly at risk of losing the right to show La Liga matches after its bid of less than £18m a year was rejected.
The broadcaster has aired Spanish top-flight matches for more than two decades, most recently paying £18m to renew its contract three years ago.
Due to the growing cost of showing Premier League football, however, the Daily Mail suggests that Sky has offered less than that amount in the latest bidding war.
BT Sport could now pounce, having expressed an interest three years ago to show the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid on a weekly basis.
The report claims that the latest La Liga package is the most valuable outside of British shores, and it could be close to the start of next season before the situation is resolved.
