Chairman backs under-fire Wakefield Trinity Wildcats coach

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats chairman Michael Carter insists that he is confident under-fire head coach James Webster will turn the team's fortunes around.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats chairman Michael Carter has backed under-fire head coach James Webster following the team's 80-0 thrashing by Warrington Wolves.

The Wildcats have lost their last eight games in Super League, leaving them at the bottom of the table.

Despite their struggle for form, Carter believes that Webster is the right man to turn the side's fortunes around in the coming weeks.

"I've given him my full backing," he told BBC Sport. "It's never crossed my mind [to sack Webster]. James is doing the job to the best of his ability, as I am and I firmly believe James will pull us round.

"It's been a tough eight weeks, but I've got to support him and the players as well have to take some personal responsibility."

Wakefield have the chance to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they host Hull FC in the league.
