Roger Federer: 'My expectations remain high'

Roger Federer believes that he can still compete at the top level, despite suffering a poor run of form this season.

Roger Federer has claimed that he still expects a lot from himself, despite suffering a poor run of form this season.

The world number seven, who is currently competing at the Shanghai Masters, is yet to seal a place at next month's ATP World Tour Finals.

Despite a disappointing 2013 campaign, Federer is still confident that he can be competitive at the top level.

"It has been a bit of a rocky patch the last couple of months but my expectations will always remain very high," the 32-year-old told the ATP's official website. "That will never change.

"As long as I'm physically and mentally fine, there's no reason for me not to be taking part in the big matches."

Federer is due to take on either Lleyton Hewitt or Andreas Seppi in the second round of the Shanghai Masters after receiving a bye in round one.
