Novak Djokovic battles past Tomas Berdych

World number one Novak Djokovic books his spot in the semi-finals at the Paris Masters with a 7-6 7-6 win over Tomas Berdych.

World number one Novak Djokovic has progressed to the semi-finals in the Paris Masters with a hard-fought 7-6 7-6 win over Tomas Berdych.

The Czech faced a break point early in the first set as Djokovic looked for an early lead, before having to save a set point at 6-5, but he was able to hold serve throughout the opener, forcing a tie-break.

The top seed surged ahead early in the breaker though, taking advantage of some shaky serving from his opponent to get the opening set on the board.

Neither player faced a break point in the second set as both continued to serve well, although Berdych pushed the Serb hard at 2-2 while trying to get back on level terms in the match.

It went to a tie-break again though, with Berdych failing to convert two set points after Djokovic dropped his serve early on, allowing the world number one to battle back and wrap up the match without the need for a deciding set.

Djokovic will face the winner of the match between Stanislas Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal in the last four.
