Canadian win their eighth gold medal of the 2014 Winter Olympics as emphatic winner Marielle Thompson leads a one-two finish in the women's ski cross in Sochi.

The 21-year-old led a Canadian one-two finish as her compatriot Kelsey Serwa picked up silver.

Serwa was never a threat to Thompson but was in danger of being caught herself as France's Ophelie David gave chase.

However, the 37-year-old veteran fell on one of the closing jumps, allowing Sweden's Anna Holmlund to coast home uncontested for bronze in foggy and rainy conditions in Russia.
