Kamil Stoch has revealed that he was sick before the men's normal hill individual ski jumping event at the Winter Olympics on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Polish ski jumper won gold at the event, despite waking up with "a headache".
"When I woke up I felt a headache and I had a high temperature, but the doctors did everything they could do bring me to life and they did," The AP quotes him as saying. "They did a good job, so thanks to them."
"The whole day was crazy," Stoch's coach Lukasz Kruczek added.
"The first information was that Kamil was ill. So we've been fighting every hour to make him better."
Slovenia's Peter Prevc won the silver medal, while Anders Bardal of Norway clinched bronze.
