Team GB's Rowan Cheshire ruled out of the half-pipe

Great Britain skier Rowan Cheshire is ruled out of the half-pipe competition at the Sochi Winter Olympics after sustaining a concussion in a fall on Sunday.

Great Britain skier Rowan Cheshire has been ruled out of the half-pipe event in the 2014 Winter Olympics as a result of her fall on Sunday.

The 18-year-old crashed during a practice session at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park and was knocked unconscious. Cheshire was admitted to hospital where it was revealed she had sustained a concussion.

Coach Pat Sharples told BBC Sport: "We are relieved that Rowan is on the mend but naturally upset for her that she won't be able to compete in Sochi.

"Rowan is only 18 and has a bright future ahead of her. I have no doubt she will back in four years' time more determined than ever."

Team GB's medical officer Niall Elliott added: "With a concussion injury there needs to be a rest period followed by a graduated return to play phase. The time scale is unfortunately too tight for Rowan."

Emma Lonsdale will now be Team GB's sole representative in the half-pipe on Thursday.
