Sergey Bubka "proud" of Ukraine's Sochi gold

Ukraine Olympic Committee chief Sergey Bubka hails the women's biathlon relay team for winning gold in Sochi.

Ukraine Olympic Committee chief Sergey Bubka has said that he is "very proud" of his country's women biathlon relay team.

Twins Vita and Valj Semerenko, Juliya Dzhyma and Olena Pidhrushna won gold in the event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi on Friday.

The victory comes in the midst of violent anti-government protests that are taking place in the country's capital Kiev.

"I am very proud," The AP quotes Bubka as saying.

"The girls brought such a fantastic success, which really we needed today for the Ukrainian people, to bring the light, to bring the bright future and to show that Ukraine exists, the Ukrainian people together."

Ukraine have won two medals in Sochi so far.
