The IAAF has announced plans for 13 of the athletics finals at the next Olympic Games to take place during the morning in Rio de Janeiro.
Finals have traditionally taken place during the evening sessions at previous events but a decision has been made for over a dozen gold-medal races to feature earlier in the day.
Competitions director Paul Hardy said: "Staging finals in the morning was done at the request of the Rio LOC and the Olympic Broadcasting Service, supported by the International Olympic Committee.
"Having finals in the morning will also ensure that we receive maximum visibility for athletics at the Olympics across all time zones."
While a full schedule will follow shortly, it was revealed that two marathons, three race walks and eight stadium disciplines will make up the number of morning finals.
