Kell Brook set for March return

Kell Brook will return to the ring to defend his IBF title in March, with his opponent expected to be revealed on Monday.

Kell Brook has been booked to make the first defence of his IBF world welterweight title in March.

The undefeated Brit was expected to defend his belt last month, but the 28-year-old was forced to abandon plans to return to the ring after being stabbed in Tenerife in September.

However, Brook has made good progress recovering from the injuries sustained in the attack, and his opponent for the bout in Sheffield will be revealed on Monday.

"I can't wait to finally see Kell make that walk at the Motorpoint Arena as world champion," promoter Eddie Hearn told reporters.

"Last year was a year of incredible highs and lows and the bravery he has shown to come back from that life-threatening injury has been quite remarkable.

"People doubted Kell before he ripped the world title from [Shawn] Porter in America. The fact is that Kell is a special fighter and I believe he will go on to unify the 147lbs division, it will be an emotional night for Kell and another big statement will be made."

Brook has previously revealed his interest in meeting Amir Khan, but his fellow Brit is hoping to set up a bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr this year.
