Liam Plunkett earns England thrilling tie against Sri Lanka

Liam Plunkett smashes the final ball of the match for six as England earn a remarkable tie in their first one-day international against Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge.

Liam Plunkett has helped England to a thrilling tie against Sri Lanka by smashing the final ball for six in the first ODI at Trent Bridge.

The number 10 launched Nuwan Pradeep's last ball down the ground and into the stand as the hosts matched their opponents' total of 286.

Chris Woakes (95 not out) and Jos Buttler (93) posted a seventh-wicket stand of 138 to rescue England after they crumbled to 82-6 after 18 overs, before Plunkett's intervention.

Angelo Mathews scored 73 and Seekkuge Prasanna 59 in the tourists' 286-9, but it was not enough to give Sri Lanka a first victory against England during this tour, having lost the three-match Test series 2-0.
