The Twitter user that made an offensive comment about Tom Daley yesterday has issued an unconvincing apology for his actions and claimed that he intends to talk to the police about the incident.
Daley, whose father passed away in May 2011, finished fourth with partner Peter Waterfield in the men's synchronised 10m platform event yesterday.
A person operating under the name @Rileyy_69 then tweeted: "@TomDaley1994 you let your dad down i hope you know that."
@Rileyy_69's following on the social networking site has since swelled to almost 50,000 users, many of whom have expressed their disgust at his comments.
At around 11.30pm on Monday evening @Rileyy_69 tweeted: "I'm in the fucking newspapers omfg."
The user later added: "@SkyNews just wanna say what i said about Tom Daley I'm sorry so if your reporting me on the news please read out that tweet thank you.
"Couldn't actually give a fuck anymore.
"I'm going to the fucking police station now to sort this i will be back."
Dorset Police have said that they are investigating the original tweet.
