Italian World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso has been appointed the new coach of Swiss club FC Sion.
The 32-year-old joined Sion in the summer of 2012 following a 13-year stint in Serie A with AC Milan.
However, following a recent run of poor results, the midfielder has been handed the management duties alongside his playing responsibilities, with previous boss Victor Munoz demoted to another role.
"Until further notice, the players will manage their activities themselves. The management entrusts responsibility for the group to its captain Gennaro Gattuso," read a club statement.
Gattuso has become the club's fifth manager this season.
