Former Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann ponders competing in Paralympics

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann says that he is considering representing Germany at the Paralympic Games in the visually-impaired football event.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has claimed that he would consider competing for Germany in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The 42-year-old would be permitted to represent his country in the visually-impaired football tournament as keepers within the squads are able-bodied athletes.

"A goalkeeper is not subject to rules that he must have some disability and no rules when it comes to career," the Daily Star quotes President of the Disabled Sports Association Friedhelm Beucher as saying.

"Jens Lehmann and Oliver Kahn or any other retired goalkeepers are practically available. We will now discuss this internally."

When asked about a possible inclusion in the Paralympics team, Lehmann said: "It's very interesting, if I am fit to go there."

Lehmann retired from the game last year.
