Arsenal vs. Leicester City: Bukayo Saka bidding to make Premier League history

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has his sights set on making Premier League history when the Gunners face Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka will be bidding to make Premier League history in Saturday's encounter against Leicester City.

The Gunners have been required to embrace a hectic schedule of late, playing games against Atalanta BC, Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers in the space of a week.

Mikel Arteta's side backed up draws on their travels in the Champions League and Premier League with a 5-1 demolition of the latter in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Although Arteta selected a much-changed side for the clash with the League One side, Saka was surprisingly handed 71 minutes at the Emirates Stadium.

His outing made it seven for the season in all competitions, while a further two appearances were made for England during the international break.

Nevertheless, the frequent game time may have played its part in the 23-year-old being on the brink of etching his name in the Premier League history books.

Saka bidding to beat Henry feat

In his first five starts in the 2024-25 Premier League, Saka has recorded one goal and five assists, helping his side to 11 points during that period.

The five assists are all the more notable because they have been posted in separate games, his solitary strike coming in the top-flight opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

As a result of whipping in the corner for Gabriel Magalhaes's header against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Saka became just the second player in the division's history to start the season with five assists in the first five games.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry had been the sole owner of that record, but the Frenchman is now at risk of losing the feat to Saka this weekend.

Saka will also want to edge nearer to eclipsing his own personal assist record in the Premier League as soon as possible, that standing at 11 from the 2022-23 campaign.

A total of 58 assists have been registered from his 233 appearances in an Arsenal shirt, highlighting the level that he has found in recent weeks.

Why odds are in Saka's favour

As well as Leicester still looking for their first Premier League win of the season, the Foxes are still yet to keep a clean sheet.

Remarkably, Saka has never scored a goal against Leicester in seven previous outings, but he has chipped in with an assist in two separate seasons.

Arsenal are also on a four-match winning streak in the Premier League versus the East Midlands outfit, scoring nine times in the process.
