Arsene Wenger becomes Europe's longest-serving manager

Arsene Wenger becomes the longest-serving manager in European football following Ronnie McFall's resignation from Portadown.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is now the longest-serving manager in European football following Ronnie McFall's resignation from Portadown.

McFall took over at the Northern Irish side, which plays in the NIFL Premiership, in 1986 but quit on Saturday after the club exited the Irish Cup at the quarter-final stage.

Frenchman Wenger became the longest-serving boss in English football following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement from Manchester United in 2013, but now holds the accolade for the entire continent.

Wenger took over at the Gunners in 1996 and is due to celebrate 20 years at the club on September 22. During his tenure he has led Arsenal to three league titles and six FA Cups, also winning the Community Shield six times.
