Arsenal confirm signing of Chelsea defender David Luiz

Arsenal confirm that they have agreed to sign Chelsea defender David Luiz, who has allegedly cost in the region of £8m.

Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Chelsea defender David Luiz.

Despite having recently penned a new contract at Stamford Bridge, reports emerged on Wednesday afternoon that Luiz had expressed a desire to make the switch across London.

With negotiations taking place swiftly after that revelation, a fee of £8m was agreed, while there was a suggestion that the Brazil international would pen a two-year deal.

Three hours after the transfer window shut on Thursday, Arsenal confirmed that they had brought in the 32-year-old on a permanent basis.

Manager Unai Emery, who worked with Luiz at Paris Saint-Germain, told the club's official website: "David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again. He is a well known player and adds to our defensive strength."

Luiz ends his second spell at Chelsea after making a total of 105 appearances in all competitions across the last three campaigns.
