Fiorentina reportedly enter pole position to sign Arsenal and Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira, who is already on loan at the club until the end of the season.

Fiorentina have reportedly become favourites to secure the signature of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.

The Gunners are said to be keen to offload the 26-year-old, who is currently on loan with the Serie A outfit, permanently at the end of the season.

According to Evening Standard, I Viola are in pole position to sign the midfielder, having been impressed by his performances in Florence this season.

With Mikel Arteta reportedly not seeing a future for the Uruguayan international at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal are set to accept a cut-price offer in the summer, with Argentinian giants Boca Juniors no longer able to complete a deal.

Since arriving at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in the summer, Torreira has featured 23 times for I Viola, who currently sit seventh in the Serie A table.

Following a £25m move from Sampdoria in 2018, the Uruguayan international featured 89 times for the Gunners before being loaned out to Atletico Madrid, for whom he played a part in a La Liga triumph, last season, and Fiorentina this term.
