Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has confirmed that he has contacted Arsenal over the signing of right-back Mathieu Debuchy.
The struggling Premier League club are hoping to convince the Frenchman to move to the Midlands by offering him first-team football.
Debuchy has played just twice for Arsenal in the Premier League this season, making seven appearances in all competitions due to Hector Bellerin standing in his way.
While Garde has not given an indication as to whether a transfer is on the cards, the former Arsenal player has confirmed that talks have begun.
"I had a conversation with Arsene a few days ago about some of the players and Mathieu Debuchy was among these players," The Independent quotes Garde as saying.
"It's too early and it won't help me or anyone to go forward in this style to make too many more comments."
The 30-year-old joined Arsenal from Newcastle United in 2014.
