Report: Arsenal have Alexandre Pato bid rejected

Arsenal make the first move in the race for Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato, but reportedly have a £6.5m bid rejected for the Brazilian international.

Premier League leaders Arsenal have apparently had a £6.5m offer for Corinthians' Brazilian international striker Alexandre Pato rejected.

The Gunners are desperate to sign forward competition for Olivier Giroud and are expected to finally offload Denmark international Nicklas Bendtner in January.

Pato, who has only netted ten times since arriving at the Timao from AC Milan for £12m last winter, is thought to be up for sale after starting only three of the club's last 11 games.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the 24-year-old, but Brazilian newspaper Lance! claims that Arsenal have tried to get a head start in the race to sign him when the transfer window reopens.

However, Corinthians are believed to be holding out for a bigger sum than the Emirates Stadium outfit's £6.5m offer for a man who has scored 10 times in 27 appearances at international level.
