Jonny Castro is reportedly left "heartbroken" by Atletico Madrid's decision to sell him to Wolverhampton Wanderers this month.

Jonny Castro is said to have been "left heartbroken" over Atletico Madrid's decision to sell him to Wolverhampton Wanderers this month.

The 24-year-old moved to Molineux on a season-long loan over the summer and has been an instrumental part of the newly-promoted side's impressive assault on the Premier League, which sees them sit seventh in the table.

The wing-back joined Wolves immediately after signing for Atletico in a £6.3m deal in July but is now on the verge of leaving the Spanish capital for the Midlands for for almost three times that amount in a joint club-record £18m transfer.

According to Marca, Jonny had hoped to make his mark for Atletico next season and believed that he was being earmarked as a long-term replacement for Filipe Luis.

The Spaniard is now said to be "extremely disappointed" with the La Liga side's decision to sell him on for significant profit just six months down the line and "feels that was their plan all along".

According to a report in Cadena Ser this morning, Jonny has now "accepted" his situation, however, and will pen terms on a permanent move to Molineux today.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side are expected to confirm the deal within the next few hours.
