Barcelona move to the top of the La Liga table courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Valencia at Mestalla, with Robert Lewandowski netting a last-gasp winner.

Robert Lewandowski scored a 93rd-minute winner as Barcelona recorded a 1-0 victory over Valencia on Saturday evening to move to the top of the La Liga table.

The striker's last-gasp effort moved Xavi's side onto 31 points and ahead of Real Madrid in the table, with the reigning champions in action against Girona on Sunday.

Samuel Lino forced Marc-Andre ter Stegen into a smart save early in the contest, before Ansu Fati saw his effort kept out by Giorgi Mamardashvili down the other end.

Barcelona did have the ball in the back of the net in the 23rd minute through Fati, but the offside flag prevented the visitors from making the breakthrough.

Lewandowski then hit the post with a header late in the first period, with the two teams heading down the tunnel at 0-0 despite Barcelona enjoying the better of the action.

Valencia had the ball in the back of the net early in the second period through Lino, but the home side's celebrations were cut short, with replays showing that Marcos Andre had handled in the build up.

Lewandowski dragged another effort wide of the home side's goal in the 83rd minute, and it did appear that the points would be shared at Mestalla, as the match went into six additional minutes.

Barcelona had other ideas, though, and scored the winner in the third minute of added time at the end of the 90, with Lewandowski stretching to turn a Raphinha cross into the back of the net.
