Gerard Pique wants to be Barcelona president

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique outlines his desire to take over as the club's president in the future.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has outlined his desire to take over as the club's president when he calls time on his playing career.

The centre-back joined the Spanish giants' youth setup at the age of 10 and, after four years with Manchester United, returned to Camp Nou in 2008, where he has since gone on to rack up 365 appearances in all competitions.

Speaking to Spanish TV station TV3, Pique admitted that he is unlikely to move into management in the future and would instead prefer a role in the boardroom.

"It's a step I would like to take once I have retired from playing," he said. "Of course I would like to be Barca president.

"I can't really see myself in the role of a coach, I don't think I would enjoy that so much. But I see myself fitting into the president's job because this is a club which I feel passionately about.

"I also think that when a player's playing career comes to an end, the logical next step, at least for me, is to become president."

During his time with Barca, Pique has won six La Liga titles, three Champions League trophies and four Copas del Rey.
