Barcelona midfielder Xavi has praised his former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic ahead of the pair's meeting this weekend.

Paris Saint-Germain signed the Swedish international last month from AC Milan, and the striker will now face another of his former clubs when Barcelona play the French side.

Xavi said that believes the signing of the Ibrahimovic will propel the Paris side to European success in the future. The Spaniard also insisted that the 30-year-old performed "fantastically" while he was at the Nou Camp.

"He is a great signing," said Xavi. "He performed fantastically for us and he is a top level player.

"He can bring a lot to them, and is the signing they needed to go on and win the French title.

"We won La Liga and got to the semi-finals of the Champions League, he scored important goals and we had a good understanding with him on the pitch and in the dressing room."

Ibrahimovic made 32 league appearances for AC Milan last year, scoring 28 goals.
