New signing Frenkie de Jong admits that he would like to see Dutch compatriot Matthijs de Ligt join him at Barcelona.

Frenkie de Jong has admitted that he wants Matthijs de Ligt to join him at Barcelona this summer.

The Catalan giants announced earlier this year that they had completed a deal for De Jong, who was formally revealed by the La Liga champions on Friday.

De Ligt - De Jong's former teammate at Ajax - has also been linked with a move to Spain, although Juventus are currently regarded as the favourites to win the race for his signature.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman has acknowledged that he would be in favour of his compatriot linking up with Barca later in the transfer window.

At his unveiling, De Jong told reporters: "I'd like to see him here, but I cannot decide.

"He has to make that decision with his family. When I saw Barca wanted me to play here, the decision was very easy."

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United are also said to be monitoring the situation.
