Pep Guardiola: "Our situation is very critical"

Pep Guardiola admits that Bayern Munich's situation is "very critical" as Mehdi Benatia joins the club's lengthy injury list.

Bayern Munich head coach Pep Guardiola has admitted that the club's injury crisis has reached a "critical" stage ahead of their Champions League quarter-final with Porto next week.

Mehdi Benatia was the latest player to be struck down by injury this week, with the club confirming on Friday that the defender could miss up to four weeks with a hamstring problem.

Bayern have already lost the services of Arjen Robben, David Alaba and Franck Ribery in recent weeks, and Guardiola has revealed that Bastian Schweinsteiger will miss Saturday's Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt as he bids to be fit for the trip to Portugal.

"We had problems, now we have even more problems. Our situation is very critical," Guardiola told reporters.

"[Schweinsteiger] will not be there against Frankfurt. I do not know whether [Ribery] can fly with us to Porto on Monday. We must not forget he has missed five weeks. If he can play maybe five minutes it will be a help."

Robben is unlikely return until the DFB-Pokal semi-final against Borussia Dortmund on April 28, while Alaba is not expected to be back in action before the end of the month.
