Hakan Calhanoglu: 'Bayern Munich interest makes me proud'

Hamburg midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu admits that he is proud of Bayern Munich's reported interest in signing him, but insists that he is only focused on his club for now.

Hamburg youngster Hakan Calhanoglu has admitted that he is proud of the interest shown in him by Bayern Munich, but instead wants to focus on his current club's survival for now.

Hamburg finished 16th in the Bundesliga this season and will be involved in the relegation play-offs against Greuther Furth or Kaiserslautern.

Calhanoglu admits that he is flattered by the interest from the Bundesliga champions, claiming that it is something that motivates him as a player.

"This [Bayern's interest] motivates me and it makes me proud. But I am not thinking about that right now. At the moment the focus is on avoiding relegation with the HSV," the 20-year-old midfielder told Sky Sports News.

Hamburg's CEO Carl-Edgar Jarchow has previously warned clubs off his side's highly-rated star, telling Bild: "We are not in these talks [with Bayern]. We do not want to sell Hakan.

"He is a player with great perspective. It would be a step back for our club to part ways with these kind of players."

Calhanoglu joined Hamburg on a four-year deal from Karlsruher SC in 2012.
