Sporting director Michael Zorc says that Borussia Dortmund hope to reach an agreement with Marco Reus over a new deal following his recent return to action.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has announced that the club have stepped up contract talks with Marco Reus following his return from a cruciate ligament injury.

The 28-year-old put discussions over fresh terms to one side while attempting to get back to full speed, meaning that he now has just 18 months left to run on his existing deal.

Reus has done well since recovering from the long-term layoff, scoring twice in five appearances and producing a man-of-the-match display in the most recent of those against Augsburg on Monday night.

Zorc now hopes to sit down with the Germany international in order to keep him contracted to Dortmund beyond the end of next season.

"We totally understood that Marco did not want to enter contract talks during his injury," he told Sport Bild. "And, of course, we will now intensify the talks."

Reus, heavily linked with Liverpool before sustaining the injury, has now scored seven goals for BVB in nine Bundesliga outings.
