Scott Arfield aims to follow George Boyd example

Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield hails the goalscoring feats of teammate George Boyd and hopes that he can contribute the same to the Clarets' survival bid.

Scott Arfield has paid tribute to Burnley teammate George Boyd and is hopeful that he can replicate the goalscoring feats of his fellow midfielder.

Arfield netted the Clarets' first goal on their return to the Premier League in their opening-day defeat to Chelsea in August, but has failed to find the net since.

In contrast, Boyd has struck twice in his last two top-flight appearances to bring his total to four since joining from Hull City in the summer, and his fellow Scot hopes to produce similar contributions soon.

"Goals are the hardest thing to come by as a midfield player but you can't put all the demand on the strikers," he told reporters.

"It's up to me to try and get the goals but it's not really happened since the first game of the season. I won't get too down or too anxious I'll just hope they start coming.

"Goals from midfield go a long way and Boyd has certainly stood up to the challenge. He's scored some crucial goals as well and he's really enhanced the squad. If I can benefit like that in anyway I'd be delighted."

Sean Dyche's side, who sit 19th in the table, two points adrift of safety, host Queens Park Rangers this afternoon.
