Chelsea have announced that Callum Hudson-Odoi will represent the club's Under-23 side on Friday night as he continues his recovery from an Achilles injury.
The 18-year-old's impressive second half to the last campaign was brought to an abrupt halt in April when he required surgery on the issue sustained in a Premier League fixture against Burnley.
However, having taken part in training over the past two weeks, the England international will now make an appearance when the Blues play Brighton & Hove Albion's second-string outfit.
Reece James - tipped to eventually replace Cesar Azpilicueta as the club's long-term right-back - will also get some minutes under his belt after undergoing an ankle operation in June.
Barring any problems over the next 12 days, manager Frank Lampard is likely to view Chelsea's EFL Cup tie with Grimsby Town on September 25 as an opportunity to get the pair involved with the first team.
