Bothroyd backs Ferdinand over racism row

QPR's Jay Bothroyd thinks that Anton Ferdinand has been "top class" dealing with the racism row.

Jay Bothroyd has praised Queens Park Rangers teammate Anton Ferdinand for how he has dealt with the storm surrounding racism allegations involving John Terry.

The controversy came after Chelsea skipper Terry was alleged to have aimed a racist remark towards Ferdinand in the 1-0 victory to QPR at Loftus Road a fortnight ago.

While the England captain has denied such accusations, the Football Association have launched an investigation into the allegations.

Ferdinand released a statement yesterday claiming that he has "very strong" feelings regarding the issue.

"Anton has been top class," The Times quote Bothroyd as saying. "What happened last week was a bit of a downer but if he dwells on that, he will do a disservice to himself.

"He just can't dwell on that negativity, he just needs to go out there and play as well as he can do. He's been very professional, he doesn't want to talk or gossip about it.

"He knows that's how Chinese whispers start. He's letting the FA deal with it and just concentrating on his game."

Meanwhile, QPR take on league leaders Manchester City on home turf this Saturday.
