Guus Hiddink hoping for John Terry stay

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink admits that he would like to see John Terry stay at the club beyond the end of his current deal this summer.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has admitted that he would like to see John Terry stay at the club beyond the end of his current deal.

The long-serving captain has continually reiterated his desire to stay at Stamford Bridge past the end of the season, but the only deal on the table so far is understood to be for a different role.

However, Hiddink, who will leave the club to be replaced by Antonio Conte this summer, believes that the 35-year-old still has what it takes to perform at the highest level.

"It's good when both parties start to talk. Personally I hope they manage to come to a solution. That is my personal opinion," Hiddink told reporters.

"He's still physically fit and mentally very fit, so he can contribute a lot wherever he wants to play."

Terry has made more than 700 appearances for Chelsea, steering them to 14 major honours in 18 seasons.
