Barcelona boss Xavi believes that Gavi would not be happy at another club amid interest from Premier League side Chelsea.

Barcelona boss Xavi has stated that he believes Gavi would not be happy at another club amid interest from Chelsea.

Gavi has been a key member of Xavi's side this season, scoring two goals and providing six assists in 40 competitive appearances.

Despite being one of the first names on the team sheet, the youngster's future at Camp Nou is in doubt.

Last September, Gavi signed a contract until the summer of 2026, and he was subsequently registered as a senior player.

However, his new deal has since been cancelled by a Barcelona court after the club missed the deadline to register the contract.

As a result, Gavi has reverted back to his academy contract and will be available on a free transfer this summer if they fail to register him as a first-team player.

Barcelona's ongoing financial issues are proving to be a stumbling block, with the club required to fall within La Liga's salary limit rules.

Gavi's situation has alerted Chelsea, who are reportedly willing to offer Gavi a lucrative contract which would make him one of the highest earners in the Premier League.

When asked about Gavi's future prior to Sunday's goalless draw with Getafe, Xavi insisted that the 18-year-old would not enjoy playing for another club.

"I don't think Gavi would be happy at a different club," the Barcelona boss told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

"He has everything here at 18 and is an important player for the team. I think his future is here at the club."

The midfielder is said to be keen to remain with the La Liga leaders and is not considering a summer departure.

Gavi helped his side win the Spanish Super Cup earlier this season, and he is closing in on his first league title as a Barcelona player.

Despite drawing their last two league games, Barcelona have an 11-point cushion over Real Madrid with nine matches remaining.
