England boss Roy Hodgson insists that the Three Lions do not need to adopt a new style of play.

Roy Hodgson has insisted that England do not need to change their principles in order to be a successful side.

The Three Lions bowed out of Euro 2012 in the quarter-finals against Italy, with suggestions that Hodgson should pursue a new approach.

However, the former West Bromwich Albion boss has claimed that he wants "England to be England".

"We have to maintain that degree of pragmatism that we have always had in English football. We also have to retain that fighting spirit and doggedness," Hodgson told the Press Association.

"We mustn't start throwing those qualities overboard just so you can come off the field and have someone say you've had more shots at goal. I don't want to emulate nations, no. I want England to be England."

England's 2014 World Cup qualification campaign gets underway in September.
