Theo Walcott: 'England fine without Wayne Rooney'

Theo Walcott says that England have enough quality in the squad to cope without the injured Wayne Rooney.

England forward Theo Walcott has no doubts that his side have the quality in depth to cope without the injured Wayne Rooney for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The Manchester United striker suffered a nasty cut to his head after accidentally colliding with Phil Jones during training with the Premier League champions last month.

However, the Arsenal winger is certain that the Three Lions will be fine without Rooney with the likes of Danny Welbeck, Rickie Lambert and Daniel Sturridge in the ranks.

"It is sad to see Wayne out, but it is an opportunity for someone to come in and take their chance," Walcott told reporters.

"Danny Welbeck has started the season well for his club and Rickie Lambert has had a great start to his England career, so the manager has some great options and I am sure he knows what to do."

England host Moldova on Friday before travelling to Ukraine on Tuesday.
