John Ruddy has said that it is "devastating" not to be included in England's squad for the World Cup this summer.
The Norwich City goalkeeper was named as a standby when Roy Hodgson unveiled his 23-man squad for the Brazil tournament earlier today.
The 27-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I got the phone call last night from Roy and I was obviously very disappointed not to be in involved in the squad.
"It's devastating, I had the same thing with the Euros where I broke my finger two days into training and had to miss out on that as well.
"I fought back from that and I've been involved in every squad I've been available for over the last two years. To be told at the final hurdle that I haven't made it is a bitter pill to swallow."
Hodgson named Manchester City's Joe Hart, Celtic's Fraser Forster and West Bromwich Albion's Ben Foster as the three keepers for the competition.
