Roberto Martinez backs FA's plans to push home-grown players in England

Everton manager Roberto Martinez backs FA chairman Greg Dyke's proposals to boost home-grown talent in England.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has given thumbs up to Football Association chairman Greg Dyke's plans to help promote home-grown talent in England.

Dyke launched proposals last month calling for Premier League clubs to increase the number of home-grown players in their squads from eight to 12.

The reforms have received mixed reaction, but Martinez believes that it is a model that every top-flight club should adopt.

"The more home-grown players we can get into our squads the better," Martinez said in this morning's press conference. "At the moment it's only a proposal, but the more we can get the better for sure.

"One of the biggest aims we have as a football club is to develop youngsters to give them opportunities and treat them in an individual manner. I don't think it will affect us at all, if anything we will benefit because we are thinking along similar lines to the proposals."

Everton are preparing to take on Southampton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
