Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney says that he wants teammate Ryan Sessegnon to stay at Craven Cottage.

Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney has said that he wants teammate Ryan Sessegnon to stay at Craven Cottage.

Sessegnon, 18, has been linked with a move away from Fulham following an impressive season in the Championship in which the youngster scored 15 goals and registered six assists.

Cairney, who scored the goal that sent Fulham to the Premier League in the playoff final, told talkSPORT that it is important for the squad to remain together ahead of their return to the top flight.

"I'm hoping [Sessegnon] stays and I'm hoping a lot more of our players stay," the midfielder said. "I think it's important to keep the squad together in the dressing room that got promoted to the Premier League.

"Last season was a bit of a crazy season. We went on that run and we finished it with what was probably the best day of my career at Wembley. We need to bring in other players because everyone knows just how hard it is to stay in this league.

"I know I'm biased but in my opinion we played the best football over the last two seasons. We played Premier League football in the Championship which is not easy to do."

Fulham will play in the top flight for the first time since being relegated in the 2013-14 campaign.
