Stoke City come from behind to draw at Hull City

Hull City draw 1-1 with Stoke City in their Premier League clash at the KC Stadium on Sunday afternoon, despite playing for 75 minutes with 10 men.

Stoke City scored seven minutes from time to secure a point in a 1-1 draw with Hull City at the KC Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The home side lost James Chester to an early red card, but Nikica Jelavic sent the Tigers into a first-half lead. There was to be late drama, however, with Ryan Shawcross securing a point for the visitors.

Both sides struggled for opportunities in the opening stages of the contest, but that changed after 14 minutes when Hull centre-back Chester was given his marching orders for bringing Glenn Whelan to the ground just outside of the box.

Erik Pieters had the first genuine chance of the first period after 24 minutes, but the Stoke defender's effort whistled just high of the crossbar from a wide angle.

The Potters changed shape in the latter stages of the half, introducing Bojan, but it was Hull who took the lead late in the half when Jelavic converted from close range after Asmir Begovic had spilled a shot from Tom Huddlestone.

Shawcross had a half-chance for Stoke five minutes into the second half, but his effort was straight at Allan McGregor. Moments later, the Hull stopper collected a low cross from Bojan, with Mame Biram Diouf in close proximity.

Stoke again came close after 63 minutes, but Diouf could only plant his header wide of the post after Peter Crouch had an effort deflected into the path of the former Manchester United forward.

Charlie Adam tested the reflexes of the Hull goalkeeper moments later, before Steven NZonzi fired high and wide in a dominant period for the visitors.

Crouch again came close after 77 minutes following a deep cross from Bojan, but McGregor just did enough to clear the danger under pressure from the former England striker, before Diouf placed one just wide of the post.

Stoke were level eight minutes from time when Shawcross forced the ball home from close range following a period of panic inside the Hull penalty area.
