Ivory Coast 2-0 Burkina Faso

The Ivory Coast seal their passage through to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-0 win against Burkina Faso.

The Ivory Coast have sealed their passage through to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-0 win against Burkina Faso.

The result has also confirmed Faso's elimination from the tournament.

Burkina Faso could have had a penalty as early as the sixth minute when Kolo Toure committed a clumsy challenge on Moumouni Dagano. However, the referee waved away the appeals.

The Ivory Coast made the breakthrough ten minutes later as Salomon Kalou lashed in from close range following Didier Drogba's cross.

Alain Traore, who proved to be Burkina Faso's brightest player throughout, saw his shot easily saved as his side went in behind at the break.

Traore had a fizzing shot saved early in the second half before Gervinho's wild miss from six yards out should have sealed the win for the Ivory Coast.

The Arsenal striker was nearly made to pay when Dagano's header rattled off the crossbar with 20 minutes to go.

The decisive goal came eight minutes from time when Arthur Boka's long ball was headed in to his own net by Baky Kone after some confusion in the Faso defence.
