Claudio Ranieri off to winning start with Leicester City

Claudio Ranieri gets off to a winning start as Leicester City boss courtesy of a 3-1 pre-season victory over Lincoln.

Claudio Ranieri got his Leicester City reign off to a winning start with a come-from-behind pre-season victory over Lincoln City this evening.

Despite a gap of four divisions between the two sides, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock after just 10 minutes when Liam Moore was adjudged to have handled the ball inside his own penalty area.

Alan Power stepped up to take the spot kick having already been denied once from open play by Kasper Schmeichel, but this time the Dane could not keep it out despite getting a hand to the ball.

That goal appeared to jolt the Premier League outfit into life, and they began creating chances soon enough, with Riyad Mahrez being denied a fine individual effort by the keeper and Danny Drinkwater dragging a free kick wide.

Lincoln held out until after the half-hour mark, but Leicester finally got the equaliser when Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki combined to set up Mahrez for the club's first goal under new boss Ranieri.

It was all change at the break for the Foxes, but they kept up the pressure in the opening stages of the half as David Nugent, Jamie Vardy and Marc Albrighton all threatened.

The trio continued to cause problems, creating more space for the likes of Andrej Kramaric, who should have put his side ahead with just under 20 minutes remaining when he missed the target from inside the box.

Despite the Foxes' second-half dominance, it was Lincoln who had the ball in the back of the net next, only for Shaun Harrod's close-range effort to be ruled out for a handball.

The Leicester attackers continued to be frustrated by Paul Farman until they finally completed the turnaround 10 minutes from time when Kramaric fired home a crisp strike from the edge of the area.

They then put the result well and truly beyond doubt in the final minute when Vardy stabbed home Albrighton's cross to cap a lively second-half showing.
