Naby Keita and Joel Matip may be in contention for Liverpool's Champions League trip to Atalanta BC after returning to training.

Liverpool pair Naby Keita and Joel Matip have returned to training ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Atalanta BC.

Centre-back Matip has started just one game all season and has not been used at all since picking up an injury in last month's Merseyside derby.

Keita's last involvement, meanwhile, was in the 7-2 loss at the hands of Aston Villa a month ago.

Both players are now in contention to feature in Liverpool's travelling party for the trip to Atalanta, but Thiago Alcantara will play no part as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.

Matip's return in particular is a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp, who had to use Nat Phillips in the heart of his injury-plagued defence for Saturday's 2-1 win over West Ham United.
