Brendan Rodgers disappointed with Liverpool defending

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers reveals his disappointment with his side's defending in their 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted his disappointment with his side's defending in their 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

In a game that marked captain Steven Gerrard's final appearance at Anfield, the Reds took the lead through Adam Lallana, but saw Jason Puncheon level the game up with a free kick in the first half.

Wilfried Zaha gave the visiting Eagles the lead in the second period before Glenn Murray netted in stoppage time after Simon Mignolet had initially saved the striker's penalty, and Rodgers was unhappy with his side's display in their final home game of the campaign.

He told reporters: "In terms of the result and the performance, it was disappointing. We started reasonably well and scored a fantastic goal with Adam, but we made poor defensive errors across the field today.

"That punished us at the end of the first half and in the second half. We didn't defend well enough; their attacking players caused us a problem and we didn't cope with that. Overall, the second half was a disappointing performance.

"I thought our decision-making defensively wasn't very good today. In fairness to [Puncheon], he sticks the ball in - it was a wonderful free-kick. But we're disappointed with how he arrived there; we saw Puncheon score with a set piece last week, he's very good in those moments."

Rodgers's squad end their season with a visit to Stoke City next week.
